During the Six Day War and the Yom Kippur War, the IDF captured hundreds of Egyptian and Syrian T-55 tanks. Many of these tanks were used by the 440th Division and the 320th Brigade. The vehicles were upgraded to include a 105 mm main gun, machine guns, and IDF radio communication systems. The upgraded “Tiran 5S" tanks took part in the War of Attrition and in the Yom Kippur War in Sinai, within the 274th Brigade. After the Yom Kippur War, the tanks were further upgraded.
